NOVEMBER

Dear Members,

We are so blessed this month to begin the holiday celebrations that bring our families and friends together to enjoy the traditions we have fostered over the years.  As mothers and grandmothers, we pour our love into our preparations and fill our hearts witnessing the pleasure our labor brings to everyone dear to us.   I wish each of you a Thanksgiving of gratitude and joy for all the blessings in your lives.

Over the years, our chapter membership has included the best women imaginable.  The dedication and support they have given to Philoptochos has fostered a strong, vibrant organization that truly makes a difference in people’s lives.  This year, one of our most loyal and steadfast members, Kristalea Travis, will be celebrating her 100th Birthday on November 30th.  Please take a moment to send her a card in celebration.  Her address is:  1575 Eudora St., Denver, CO  80220.

On the 20th, @ 9am in the kitchen, we’ll be preparing meals for Lunch in the Park.  Please join us if you have time.  If you’d like to prepare a dessert offering in advance, call Vasiliki Vassos @ 720.725.2379.

Holiday Bake Sale

This year, we are planning to expand our Holiday Bake Sale to the neighborhoods immediately surrounding the Cathedral in order to share our traditions with our community and to increase our revenue.  We will be baking 100 8’x8’ pans of baklava for this sale on Thursday, November 30th.  Please join us in the Centennial Room that morning at 10:00 AM.  Working side by side always makes the work light and quick.  Please join us, if you can!

If you are able to make koulourakia at home to assist with the bake sale, please keep them to 4” in size and be sure to let Mary Anthanites know how many you can make (303.204.0706). Please deliver them on December 14th to the large room in the Sunday School, lower floor of the Community Center.

On December 14th, we will also package the items in decorative boxes and your assisted would be appreciated then, as well.  We will be distributing the items on Sunday, December 17th from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM, and on Monday, December 18th from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Pricing is as follows:

• Variety Package  $35

Stellee Papadeas has planned our Holiday Luncheon once again, and we are looking forward to another wonderful event at Seasons 52 Restaurant, 8325 Park Meadows Center Drive, Lone Tree, CO  80124 on December 9th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.  The cost is $40.  Please make your reservation by calling Stellee.

Philoptochos Closet Cleanout

A few weeks ago, I was stunned when I saw how much stuff had been removed from the Philoptochos closet as Mary & Randy Anthanites, Mitsi & Mark Andrews, Celeste & Rick Lee, Liberty Matzatos and Klea Kappos prepared to clean, organize, and return the closet to order.  Our deepest thanks to them for the time and effort they invested in this endeavor.  They have saved us time and money as all the items are now stacked in see-through bins, labeled and ready for use.

Upcoming Events

Please take a look at our updated calendar, as we have rescheduled a few meeting dates in order change our meeting room, when possible, to the Annunciation Room.  I appreciate your patience with these alterations to your calendars.

You will also find the Philoptochos Table Monitor Schedule in this Newsletter.  If you see that someone is the sole monitor and you are at church and available, please pitch in an help when you can.

Please save the date for a very exciting event with Greek-American writer, Yvette Manessis Corporan, author of Something Beautiful Happened, on February 24, 2024.  Details of this special day will be shared in the very near future, and I know you’ll want to attend!

Children’s Medical Fund Luncheon

Finally, I’m writing this newsletter from Houston, at the Children’s Medical Fund Luncheon Event.   What a lovely outpouring of care and support for the children in our Metropolis!  We can all take pride in the contributions we’ve made to support this worthy cause in the past years.

Thanks to all who made this event so wonderful, particularly our own Niki Mott, who has worked tirelessly for well over a year to make sure the event was a great success.  The Denver Assumption Cathedral Philoptochos was well represented.
