DECEMBER

Dear Members,

I’ve had the opportunity to slow down a bit these last few weeks while the rest of the world has been scurrying to finish holiday preparations and to make our community a better place.  Santa’s elves have nothing on the ladies of our Philoptochos, as they have been working hard and with joy to fulfill the following projects.  I am so proud to be part of them, and happy to know without any reservation, that they are fueled by their individual passion for good and work tirelessly to achieve it.

THE PHILOPTOCHOS LUNCHEON

The Philoptochos Luncheon looks to have been a fun and wonderful occasion for new and old friends to gather and enjoy some holiday cheer.  Special thanks to Stellee Papadeas for her impeccable taste and sense of the holiday spirit.  Smiles were plentiful, as were the warm hats, gloves and mittens collected for those in need.  Thanks to all who came!  We hope to see you often.

SANDOS BASKETS

Sandos Baskets were provided for again to serve the residents of Jefferson, Denver, Adams and Arapahoe counties.  The program builds and delivers food baskets complete with a turkey and all of the trimmings for a holiday meal on the Saturday before Christmas.

FLEECE NAVIDAD

Fleece Navidad was a huge success again this year as our chapter provided fleece outfits for people in care facilities and shelters around our city.  For some residents without families, our gift was the highlight of their festivities.  Our merry elves delivered packages on behalf of the individual members that purchased and wrapped them, bringing comfort where it was most needed.  Special thanks to Dianne Sweeney, Alex Kitsos, Eva Fry and Mitsi Andrews for their coordinating efforts.

HOLIDAY BAKE SALE

Holiday Bake Sale days are over now, but it took weeks of planning, baking, sorting and wrapping to pull it off.  Mary Athanites did a fantastic job in spearheading this project which garnered needed revenue for our good works budget.  Many thanks to her and the many elves who gave their time and talent to this project.  Our community looks forward to it every year, and it continues to grow in popularity.  Kudos to all and thank you!

author’s talk and tea

In February, our Tea will feature author, Yvette Manessis Corporon on February 24th @ 10:30 AM.  A copy of her book, Something Beautiful Happened will be provided as part of registration, and we encourage you to take part in this engaging story of courage and philoxenia.  Yvette will sign her book and take questions from us after her inspiring talk.

On a personal note, I’d like to thank each of you who reached out to me to offer comfort and support during these past weeks.  Your many prayers were felt and heard.  I am so blessed to be part of this community.  Thank you!

Our next General Meeting will be held on Sunday, January 14th in the Multi-Purpose room on the lower level of the Cathedral at 12:00 PM.  Please join us then!
